THINGS TO DO
Perched on the Cape Fear River seaport, Wilmington is one of the last great dames of the old south.
She’s a delectable city that offers a mix of the old and the new that will enthuse all visitors.
- Within 20 minutes, you can be at any one of our three clean sand-washed beaches—Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure Beaches—where you can do some inshore or offshore fishing and catch some rays under our Carolina blue skies.
- Only an hour away, you may want to spend the day at Myrtle Beach, SC shopping or golfing.
- It’s a 15 block stroll to downtown Wilmington (or a 5 minute ride).
- An old-fashioned buggy ride through the historic district will provide a scenic tour of many historical sites, including among others the Cornwallis House, the slave market, or the Bellamy Mansion.
- Visit Chandlers Warf on the River Walk where you will find a host of restaurants and shops.
- Delve into some of the exciting history and visit local haunts on a ghost walking tour.
- Historic Fort Fisher just a couple of miles south of Carolina beach is a definite "must see" for the history buff. Being the last Confederate blockade to remain standing, Fort Fisher has a wonderful museum dedicated to all the soldiers who fought in the Confederate War.
- North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher sits on 22 acres of beach front property on the Atlantic Ocean, just north of the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
- Go to a play or musical at Thalian Hall, a historical theater that has served Wilmingtonians the best live entertainment for decades.
